You'll need Eye Candy 3 for this tutorial.

I have a few tutorials on rugs written for PhotoImpact 6 which will also work for version 7.    Instead of writing yet another one, I am writing this tutorial on how to get a sculptured rug effect.

Open a new canvas 300 x 300.  Bucket fill the canvas with any color.  For this tutorial I am using color #7B5D3A.

Go to Effect, Noise, Add Noise 10, Uniform.

Go to Eye Candy, Swirl and in the drop down choose Little Crystals with the following settings:  Whirlpool Spacing 15, Smear Length 20, Twist 0, Streak Detail 34.  Apply this.

Hit Control C (copy) and Control V (paste) so a duplicate appears on top of the original one.  While this is active, go to Effect, Special, Monochrome (PI 8 users go to Effect/Artistic/Monochrome).  Go back to Effect, Natural Painting, Colored Pen (PI8 users go to Effect/Artistic/Colored Pen) and set the level at 100.

Right click and go to properties while the duplicate is still active.  Click on the drop down menu in Merge and choose Hard Light.  Right click and Merge All.

Go to Effect, Camera Lens, Motion Blur (PI 8 users go to Effect/Blur/Motion Blur)  and click on the last box to the right in the top row.

Go to Effect, Creative, Transform (PI 8 users go to Effect/Distort/Creative Transform).   Choose Diffuse and leave it at the default settings (PI 8 users set the Level to 15).  In the box displaying your tile, place your mouse over the tile and use the brush to "paint" in circular motions until you get the effect you want.  You can play with the settings.  Click Ok when done.  You will have to use the selection tool to crop off the sides that aren't blended.

Make your rugs in colors to your liking.

I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial.
